PANAJI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will arrive in Goa from New Delhi on Thursday afternoon on a two-day visit to the State. During his visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the Goa government’s ambitious broadband network project, which will launch the first phase of its e-governance programme. The broadband network has been designed to connect the State headquarters and district headquarters with all 11 taluks, village panchayats and eventually all households and institutions across the State. Goa’s Minister for Information Technology Dayanand G. Narvekar said on Wednesday, “The goal is to provide ultra speedy and transparent governance system capable of providing better services to common citizens of the State.” Dr. Singh will also be the chief guest for the annual convocation ceremony of the Goa University to be held on Friday morning. The Prime Minister will leave for Delhi on Friday afternoon. The Goa police have strengthened security in the State on account of the ongoing Christmas festivities and also in view of the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister.
