Rohit scores century

Hyderabad: A Century by Rohit Rajan (102) helped Vijay Paul Cricket Academy score a convincing 92-run win over Arshad Ayub Cricket Academy in the under-15 category of the Santa Cup sub-juniors cricket tournament here.

The scores: Under-11: VPCA 247 for three (D.G.J. Chaitanya 87, Tarun Reddy 40 not out) bt Denzil CA 113 for six.

Daniel CA 173 for five (Siddan Agarwal 51, Anurag 31, Raj Tanwani three for 30) bt Aurangabad 127 (Srinath three for five).

Under-13: VPCA 205 for five (Rohit Reddy 75, Abhirath 39) bt Denzil CA 123 for five (Lewelyn Rao 68, Shravan Kumar three for 25).

St. Peter’s 213 for nine (Ranjeet Kumar 53, Jayasurya 45, Sumanth three for 50, Lokesh three for 49) bt ICFAI 120 for seven (Varun Raj four for 30, Jayasurya three for 15).

Denzil CA 140 (Furquan 30, Shubham Jod six for 13) lost to St.John’s 141 for three (Lohit 56).

Under-15: VPCA 227 for four (Rohit Rajan 102, G.V. Vaibhav 45) bt Arshad CA 135 (Mallikarjun 66, Yatin Reddy three for 32).

Aurangabad 75 (Zeeshan Ali four for 13) lost to St. John’s 77 for one (Farhan 32 not out, Rahul 30).

St. Joseph’s 165 for seven (Karthik 43, Naresh three for 31) bt ICFAI 78 (Chanakya five for 16).

Raju wins title

K.S.R.M. Raju, with five points, emerged winner in the Senior Citizens chess tournament organised by Association of Senior Citizens of Hyderabad and Probus Day Care Centre here.

Final placings: 1. K.S.R.M. Raju 5 pts, 2. P. Ranga Rao, 3. Y. Sridhar Rao, 4. P. Saranappa, 5. P.V.V.S. Rao, 6. S.B. Reddy, 7. B.J. Reddy, 8. V. Harinath, 9. K.R. Prasad and 10. G. Shankara Rao.

Best woman player: Susheela Krishnamurthy.

Honour for City athlete

D. Madhavi, an assistant in the NGRI here, was awarded the CSIR Diamond Jubilee prize for excellence in indoor sports for the year 2006-07 by the CISR Sports Promotion Board in Delhi.

It also carries an award of Rs.25,000 and a citation.
