Priest arrested on theft charge

The Nallakunta police on Wednesday recovered stolen articles and bikes, all worth Rs. 3 lakh, after arresting former priest of a temple, Tekumalla Ravi Kumar Sharma, at Alwal. By virtue of his position as priest, the 24-year-old accused used to befriend locals and steal valuables from them, the East Zone DCP T. Prabhakar Rao said in a press release. Hailing from Kakinada, he allegedly stole a bike in Nuzivid of Krishna district. Later, he burgled the Siva Sai temple at Erragadda in the city and Rama temple in Nalgonda district, the police said.

Auto-rickshaw driver arrested

An auto-rickshaw driver Syed Ghouse was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a traffic police constable Shekhar at Mehdipatnam. The driver allegedly picked up an argument with the constable when the latter asked him to move his vehicle from the roadside and attacked him with an iron rod.

He was later arrested by the Asifnagar police.

Students held on robbery charge

Two of the three youths, who robbed inmates of a house at knifepoint after barging inside posing as policemen 10 days ago at Tolichowki, turned out to be students, the police said on Wednesday. Syed Mohd. Mazhar Alam and Zaid Abdul Rasheed Khan, both aged about 20 years and pursuing engineering and flight technician courses respectively, along with their associate Mohd. Junaid, 21, were arrested by the Hyderabad Detective Department officials.

Two stolen mobile phones and 100 Saudi riyals, all worth Rs. 25,000, were recovered from them.
