50 activists take part in demonstration Certain words in the film cause for protest Bangalore: Nearly 50 activists of the Srirama Sene on Wednesday staged a demonstration in protest against certain words used in the Kannada film “Preeti Yeke Bhoomimele Ide”. They claimed that the words had hurt religious sentiments. The demonstration was staged in front of Ashwini Studio in RPC Layout. In the course of the demonstration, a few protestors broke the window panes of the studio. Later, the police intervened and persuaded them to disperse. P. Surendra Rao, general secretary of the cultural organisation, Samudaya, condemned the attack on the studio and urged the Governor to take action against those responsible for the incident. “Such tendencies should not be allowed to grow. There are many versions of the Ramayana and each has a different hero based on the cultural context. “A unipolar view of the epic cannot be imposed [on others],” he has said in a statement. Pointing out that the song is based on a poem by Shishunala Sharief, a saint-poet known for his values, Mr. Rao sought to know if some organisations or individuals can be allowed to reverse or take over an entire literary tradition.
