‘Vested interests’ accused of trying to bring disrepute to Siddaramaiah Vokkaligas to take out silent procession MYSORE: Congress leaders — both at the State and district level — are unhappy over the reported tiff between the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the former Minister M. Mahadev during a programme organised by the Youth Congress in Mysore on Sunday. They are worried over the caste colour being given to the incident and are trying to put an end to the issue despite the adamant stand by Mr. Mahadev, who, according to some senior leaders, reportedly wants to capitalise on the issue. Senior leaders, including the former Union Minister V. Srinivasa Prasad, the former Minister, H. Vishwanath and district unit president Dase Gowda are trying to put an end to the issue. Meanwhile, supporters of Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Mahadev are continuing their protest. While the AHINDA (Alpasankhyataru Hindulidavaru Mattu Dalitaru) is staging demonstrations in support Siddaramaiah, Veerashaiva and Vokkaliga community members are protesting in favour of Mr. Mahadev and the former Mayor Vasu, who was reportedly pushed aside by Mr. Siddaramaiah during the incident. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Prasad expressed concern over the incident getting caste colour. He said that people would understand the “grand design” of vested interests in blowing up the incident. Nobody could claim that they were “loyalists” or “migrants,” he said. Sources in the district Congress said that Mr. Prasad was making efforts to resolve the issue. He had reportedly appealed to Mr. Vishwanath and others to patch up the differences between “disputing” leaders. They have also tried to stop Mr. Mahadev from sending a CD containing the video recording of Mr. Siddaramaiah trying to assault Mahadev. Mr. Mahadev’s decision to take the issue to Congress high command made them drop the idea of patch up on Tuesday. AllegationAddressing presspersons here on Wednesday, G.V. Seetharam alleged that some vested interests in the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) were trying to bring disrepute to Mr. Siddaramaiah, who was a potential political threat to them. He condemned the protest staged by member of the Vokkaliga community denouncing action of Mr. Siddaramaiah. Vice-president of Veerashaiva Yuva Vedike Shiva Mahadevappa threatened to teach a lesson to Siddaramaiah, if the latter failed to tender an apology. In another development, leaders of Vokkaliga community of Mysore have decided to take out a silent procession in the city on Thursday. The rally will commence from Gun House and pass through various thoroughfares of the city before culminating at Vokkaligara Bhavan, according to samiti president M.N. Venkatesh.
