Private buses stop operating service

KASARAGOD: Private buses plying between Kasaragod and Mangalore stopped services following tension in Pesot on the Kasaragod-Mangalore highway, after an accident involving a private bus in which one person was killed.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. on Thursday when a private bus hit a motorbike near a petrol pump in Pesot. According to the police, Ahmed Haji, 60, a native of Majbel, Manjeswar who was riding pillion died of injuries, and his son Umer, 24, who was riding the bike was seriously injured. Mr. Umer was admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore. Following the accident, private buses on the route stopped services fearing mob violence.
