THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Confusions about the land for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its space institute seem to have blown over, with the Chief Minister’s office on Thursday stating that ISRO was happy with the land offered by the government. In a release, the Chief Minister’s press secretary, K. Balakrishnan, said that ISRO had expressed full satisfaction with the allotment of 28 hectares of land at Valiyamala and eight hectares at Upper Sanatorium in Thiruvananthapuram district by the government. ISRO Chairman G. Madhavan Nair wrote to the Chief Minister saying that the two stretches of land offered were acceptable for setting up the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, the release said. “Mr. Madhavan Nair also thanked Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan for the steps the State government had taken to provide the required land within such a short time.” The government had earlier offered 40 hectares free of cost to ISRO for the institute at Ponmudi . ISRO had politely turned down the offer since this stretch was not ideal for setting up the institute. It was subsequent to this that the government came out with the offer of 28 hectares at Valiyamala and eight hectares at Upper Sanatorium.
