KANNUR: The incidents of political violence that took place near Thalassery hours after the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Sangh Parivar organisations resolved to work for restoring peace in the sensitive areas at a peace meeting on Wednesday raised fresh concern about escalation of tension. A Rashtriya Swayasevak Sangh (RSS) worker, K.P. Shameer (29), was stabbed late on Wednesday night near the Thiruvangad temple tank when he was on his way home. He had been admitted to a hospital at Thalassery. The attack was allegedly carried out by CPI(M) workers. The incident came as a surprise as it took place in the wake of a peace meeting convened by the Thalassery Revenue Divisional Officer on Wednesday morning in which local leaders of the CPI(M) and the Sangh Parivar organisations assured efforts to bring peace in sensitive areas. Police officers, including Superintendent of Police Mathew Polycarp, were present. A core committee had been for med to ensure urgent intervention to restore normality.
