Maharashtra leads in JNURM projects

47 projects approved at Rs. 6,396 cr.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra is now the leading States under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) with 47 projects being approved at a cost of Rs.6,396 crore. The State has got more number of projects than those cleared for Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

Maharashtra submitted 106 proposals costing Rs.23,000 crore and of this the Centre cleared 47. On Thursday, a meeting of the State-level steering committee on the JNURM cleared 26 proposals for the Mumbai metropolitan region and other cities. These will now be submitted to the Centre for approval.

Mumbai development

The 26 proposals are estimated to cost Rs.3,395 crore. They are located outside the Mumbai city.

The committee also approved the city development plan for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as well as some other corporations. The State has so far received Rs.700 crore under the Mission.
