dated December 28, 1957: Accident in Nepal Gold Cup

As anticipated, the Boxing Day racing in Calcutta proved a great day for good horses this afternoon (on December 26) when the huge crow, one of the biggest so far, was treated to an afternoon’s most eventful sport, which was marred by a tragic accident in the Nepal Gold Cup, in which Poohbear dropped dead near the mile post right in front of Morn who naturally toppled over the fallen Poohbear, only to break his leg and be destroyed shortly after.

Jockey Carter, who flew over here from Madras to ride Poohbear, fractured his left leg and was sent to a nursing home immediately for first aid.
