Good knock by Kathiresan

Madurai: Kathiresan’s 89 helped Sivakasi Town Cricket Club beat host Sun Brothers CC by 16 runs in the inaugural match of the sixth State-level knock-out cricket tournament for the Sun Brothers Trophy at Usilampatti on Thursday.

The scores:

Sivakasi Town CC 155 for six in 25 overs (Kathiresan 89, Santhosh Gopi four for 28) bt Sun Brothers CC 139 in 22.5 overs (Santhosh Gopi 53).

Vignesh SC (Dindigul) 136 in 23 overs bt Babu CA (Madurai) 79 in 14.2 overs (Gopi four for 22, N. Venkataraman four for 15).

Ramanathapuram in command

Host Ramanathapuram was in a commanding position against Cuddalore in their TNCA inter-district under-17 cricket tournament match (second stage) for the P.R. Thevar Trophy on Thursday.

The scores:

Ramanathapuram 201 in 71 overs (C. Saren Jeyakumar 65, Gnanaprakasamurthy 40, P. Prabu four for eight) vs. Cuddalore 48 for eight in 21.3 overs.

Lingam shocks Paramasivam

Defending champion and fifth seed M. Paramasivam of Virudhunagar was shocked by T.S. Lingam of Tuticorin in the 11th annual State-level open chess tournament for the Pearl City Trophy at Tuticorin on Thursday.

Vellore 67 for four

Vellore was 67 for four at close in reply to Tiruvallur’s 178 in the TNCA under-17 inter-district pre-quarterfinal cricket match for the P.R. Thevar Trophy at the Jaya Arts and Science College, Chennai, on Thursday.

Pre-quarterfinals: Tiruvallur 178 in 64.5 overs (Poiya Mozhi 55, V. Naresh Babu three for 41, Rohith three for 61) vs. Vellore 67 for four in 26 overs.
