BANGALORE: Veera Vasanth bagged a creditable double in the KIM’s — AITA Talent Series junior tennis championship at the KIM’s courts here on Thursday. The second seeded Vasanth, humbled the top seed S. Kamal 6-4, 6-3 in an all Karnataka boys under-18 singles final and earlier in the day, he had won the doubles title partnering Kamal. It was Vasanth’s sheer consistency and ability to wriggle out tight situations that helped him prevail in the final. The youngster, who had trained for a few months at the Pat Cash Academy in Australia till March, though lacked a good first serve, made it up with nippy court coverage and strong returns. The match saw some good rallies with both players staying glued to the baseline, relying more on their groundstrokes. The results: Boys: U-18 singles final: Veera Vasanth bt S. Kamal 6-4, 6-3. Semifinals: Vasanth bt Sujeeth Mathew 6-2, 6-1; Kamal bt Sujith Sachidanand 6-1, 7-5. Doubles final: S. Kamal & Veera Vasanth bt Ganga Singh & Ajinkya Pawar 6-0, 6-3. U-16 singles final: Rashien Samuel bt Vishnu K. Jinan 6-1, 6-0. Semifinals: Rashien bt S. Karan 6-3, 6-0; Vishnu bt Ganga Singh 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (6). Girls: U-16 singles final: Rachana R. Gowda bt U.M. Shalaka 6-4, 6-2. Semifinals: Rachana bt Yamini Reddy 6-2, 6-1; Shalaka bt Nithya Raj 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. U-18 singles semifinals: Akansha Kohli bt Mayura Manthan 6-1, 6-1; Rachana R. Gowda bt Raveena Shetty 6-1, 6-4.
