Prestigious award for Bibhuti Patnaik

CUTTACK: Winner of the prestigious Sahitya Bharati Samman-2007 was announced here on Thursday. Eminent litterateur, novelist of repute and newly-nominated member of Kendra Sahitya Academy council Bibhuti Patnaik has been nominated to get the award which is considered to be highest cash award given by a non-government foundation.

Instituted by the Gangadhar Rath Foundation, the award carrying a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and other citations and mementos would be conferred on Patnaik by Governor M.C. Bhandare on January 12 next. Mr. Patnaik has written over 50 novels and about 200 short stories.

Winner of several literary awards and honours Mr. Patnaik has been selected for this year’s highest literary award of the State in recognition to his contributions to the literary field, said the Foundation secretary Jayant Rath. The foundation will also honour poet Harihar Mishra with ‘Bhanuji Rao Memorial Award.
