Two-year jail for electrician who sent obscene SMS
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: An electrician with the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests who had been convicted of sending obscene SMS to a woman officer has been sentenced to two-year imprisonment by a court here. Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal sentenced Basu Dev Mandal, who had confessed in the court that he had been sending obscene messages to the complainant. The court observed that the convict did not show any signs of reforming and that his conduct could not be tolerated. While dismissing the plea for putting him on probation as he was a first-time offender, the court took into account the fact that Mandal used to send objectionable letters to the complainant from jail. The woman officer, who was an Officer on Special Duty, had lodged a complaint with the Tilak Marg police station on July 4. Following an initial inquiry, Mandal had been sacked from his job from the Ministry.
