Three CRPF companies sent to Orissa

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday rushed three companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for assisting the civil authorities in maintaining law and order in Kandhamal.

Special Secretary (Internal Security) M.L. Kumawat spoke to Orissa police chief Gopal Nanda, and assessed the situation in the State, a Home Ministry spokesman said here on Thursday.

While two companies of the CRPF personnel had already been sent at the request of the State government, another company would be sent shortly, the spokesman said.

The Centre was in touch with the State government and had also assured it of all assistance to meet the law and order requirements.
