‘Ayurveda products should be standardised’ Manipal: H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University, said on Thursday that Ayurveda products should be standardised. He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on Continuing Medical Education (CME) in Ayurveda on clinical methods in Dermatology, “Ayurvision – 2007”, organised by the Department of Ayurveda at Manipal University, here. Stating that Ayurveda was gaining popularity in Western world, Prof. Ballal said: “There are 1.2 doctors for every 1,000 persons in India. Of these doctors, only 0.5 doctors follow Allopathic medicine, while the rest follow alternative systems of medicine. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), there should be one doctor for every 500 people”. Short term coursesThe Department of Ayurveda at Manipal University was conducting short-term courses in Ayurveda and the response was excellent, he said. Releasing the souvenir of the conference, Rajasekharan P. Warrier, Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, said proper study in Ayurveda was necessary. Representation“There should be adequate representation of Ayurveda at conferences and workshops. Ayurveda products should be safe,” he said. Dean of Kasturba Medical College Sripati Rao, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital B.H. Anand Rao, Head of the Department of Ayurveda at Manipal University, M.S. Kamath, and organising secretary of Ayurvision K.J. Malagi, were present. About 60 Ayurveda practitioners from different parts of the country are participating in the workshop.
