MANGALORE: New year appears to be bringing Bangalore and Mangalore closer with a private aircraft operator coming forward to introduce a late evening daily service between the two cities.

This has come close on the heels of Jet Airways announcing a late evening flight between Mangalore and Bangalore from January 3.

With this, the number of daily flight services between the State capital and the port city is set to go up to six.

Schedule

Sources at Bajpe airport told The Hindu that as per the tentative schedule, the proposed flight of the private operator would leave Bangalore at 7 p.m. and arrive at Mangalore by 8 p.m.

It will leave here at 8.30 p.m. and reach Bangalore in one hour.

The proposed Jet Airways flight is scheduled to leave Bangalore at 5.45 p.m. and arrive here at 6.30 p.m. on all days except Sunday. It will depart at 7.05 p.m. and reach Bangalore at 7.45 p.m.

Sundays

On Sundays, the flight will leave Bangalore at 6.05 p.m. and arrive here at 6.45 p.m. It will leave at 7.20 p.m. from here and reach Bangalore at 8.05 p.m. Hitherto, there were no late evening services between the two cities. The last flight to Mangalore from Bangalore was at 4.15 p.m.

In the reverse direction, it was at 5.30 p.m.

The first morning flight to Mangalore from Bangalore arrives at 9.20 a.m. and departs at 9.35 a.m.

The second flight arrives at 10.05 a.m. and departs at 10.40 a.m.

Approval

Sources said the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Bajpe Airport had approved the second late evening flight, pending the approval of Director General of Civil Aviation.

Utility

Late evening flight services will help executives, IT professionals, business people and others to fly between the two cities regularly, sources said.
