Police yet to track down the persons responsible for the twin explosions HYDERABAD: Police investigating into the Mecca Masjid blast case reportedly achieved a breakthrough by identifying three persons who had triggered the explosion in the mosque on May 18 last. While two of them were among the eight Hyderabadis already arrested on criminal conspiracy charge, the third was a Bangladeshi whose identity is yet to be established, police sources said on Thursday. “From transportation of explosive substances into Hyderabad to making the bombs and planting them in the mosque, the entire terrorist operation has been reconstructed,” a top police officer told The Hindu. However, the police said they are yet to track down the persons responsible for the twin explosions on August 25.
First clue in the Mecca Masjid case came reportedly from Nayeem alias Sameer, who was caught by the Border Security Force officials in West Bengal a few weeks before the explosion was reported. During interrogation, Sameer, an alleged agent of Lashkar-e-Taiba, reportedly confessed to have smuggled RDX to Hyderabad earlier. He was provided shelter in Secunderabad by one Imran at whose house the bombs were made by a Bangladeshi. “We couldn’t secure concrete evidence then. But the mystery behind the blast was unravelled after two Hyderabadis responsible for it were identified recently. They are already lodged in jail along with six others,” the officer said.
