KOCHI: The first director board meeting of Smart City Kochi, a self-sustained industry township for knowledge-based industries, was held here on Thursday. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan laid the foundation stone for the multi-crore project, promoted jointly by Dubai-based Tecom and the State government, at Kakkanad on November 16. Important decisionsThe board meeting, aimed at deciding the future course of action for the implementation of the project, took some important decisions. The meeting appointed Abdullatif Al Mulla, chief executive officer of Tecom, vice-chairman of the board. Fisheries Minister S. Sarma, chairman, represented the government at the meeting. The budget and marketing plan for 2008 and formation of a group to take care of the initial operations for the smooth rollout of the project were approved. “We are happy to convene our first meeting of the board of directors. The decision taken by the board today sets the path for us to roll out our project in the required direction. We are fully confident about the success of this project and happy to play a part in attracting IT [information technology] and ITES [-enabled-services] units to the State,” Fareed Abdulrahman, executive director of Smart City, said. Mr. Al Mulla, Mr. Abdulrahman, Deepak S. Padmanabhan and Jamal Abdulsalam were present on behalf of Tecom. PotentialSmart City Kochi has the potential to become one of India’s largest business parks. Most importantly, the project promises generation of over 90,000 employment opportunities.
