Law to be amended
Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: Forests Minister Benoy Viswom has said that discussions are on to amend the law to increase the penalty for crimes involving sandalwood and introduce a licensing system to handle it.
He was inaugurating a workshop on protection and maintenance of the sandal forest at Marayur here on Thursday.
Mr. Viswom said it would be possible to protect the sandal trees only if dedicated officers, people’s representatives, forest conservation workers and the government came together.
