PUDUKOTTAI: Though he had planned to visit Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in Tiruchi, he changed the schedule and preferred to address students: for the reason that students would not be bored by his lecture. “I am not going to conduct any test or examination at the end of my lecture,” he guffawed.
During his humour-filled interaction at the Gnanalaya Library in Pudukottai on Friday with a group of students of H. H. The Rajah’s College, S. Ve. Sekar ensured that he was equally serious in driving home a message.
He dwelt at length on various topics: the freedom he enjoys in plays, the importance of sex education, and more importantly, his future plan to launch a website on drama artistes.
“I am the king, the minister and everything in plays,” he says about his roles with a twinkle in his eyes.
Categorically advocating the need for imparting sex education, he said co-education policy would go a long way in eliminating gender-based discrimination at educational institutions.
Rights issue
“Parents should ensure equal rights for their daughters,” he said, explaining how he practises this principle at home. “My daughter learnt car driving along with my son. I do not scold my daughter if she wakes up late in the morning.”
More than once, amidst humour and satire, he insisted on discipline. “There is a lot of difference between knowledge and education. Discipline forms part of knowledge.” He admitted that he would visit Sri Bhuvaneswari Avadutha Vidya Peetam in Pudukottai. At the same time, he was fond of a few principles of the late Periyar. Caste-based politics was something students should not trust, he categorically said.
