A boon for book lovers

PUDUCHERRY: The exhibition organised by the Department of Art and Culture at the Anandha Thirumana Nilayam on S. V. Patel Salai offers visitors a wide variety of books to choose from.

The Pondicherry Institute of Linguistics and Culture offers English translations of select poems of Bharathidasan (discounted price of Rs.150), Vanidasan (Rs.112) and Pudhuvai Sivam (Rs.50). This stall offers a special discount on many books, apart from the 25 per cent discount that the fair offers.

The Sahitya Akademy stall has a series titled ‘Makers of Indian Literature’, comprising works of Andal, Karaikal Ammaiyar, Paranjothi Munivar, Thirugnanasambandar and Periyalwar.

The books are priced Rs.25 each and cost Rs.19 after discount. This stall also has titles like the history of the Urdu language, Saora Folk Tales and songs and contemporary Dogri poetry. The Kannadasan Publications stall has collections of the works of the author in films, his romantic poems, lullabies and his autobiography.

The Pustak Mandir stall has books from Narmada Pathipagam, including the Vedas in Tami, Mahabaratha and the 18 Puranas. Asha Enterprises has books on ceramic and glass painting, Madhubani painting, chamki work, dress designs and mehandi designs.

Other noted publishers participating include Higginbothams, Vikatan Publications, New Century Book House, Dravidian Book House and magazines from Info Media.
