DUMMUGUDEM (KHAMMAM DT): Certain civil packages of the Rajiv Sagar ( Dummugudem) lift scheme had their investigation completed but the approval of the designs was awaited.

The civil works on the canal under package No 66, 67, and 68 were still in the stage of investigation.

So was the case with package no-1 for which the agreement was finalised some time in September last. The implementation of the lift scheme was split into seven packages and the electromechanical works under package No 1 /1 were cleared by the technical committee and they were subsequently submitted to the high level committee of the government.

The Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, Vanama Venkateswar Rao who had a review of the work progress with the officials concerned at the project site said the Rajiv Sagar lift scheme would be completed in three years time.

He told the media persons that steps were being taken to accelerate the pace of works on the project right from next month.

Attributing the delay in the implementation of the works mainly to certain technical problems, he said that the lift scheme designed for utilising some 16.5 TMC feet of water from the Godavari river would benefit an ayacut of 2 lakh acres.

The land plan schedule was under preparation. The project needs some 1980 hectares of land. It included 345 hectares of forest land.

The Minister said that the government would spend Rs. 800 crores on the lift schemes in the ensuing year.

It had released Rs. 600 crores for taking up the project in the current financial year and a major part of the allocations were already utilised.

The Rajiv sagar lift scheme would extend irrigation facilities to the parched lands in some 16 revenue mandals in the district.

The operation of the lift would require 119 MW of power. The government was planning to set a 250 MW power units for the purpose, he added.

The Sujathanagar MLA, Ram Reddy Venkata Reddy, the Burgumpadu MLA, Payam Venkateswarlu and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MLC were among those who took part in the review.
