Eminent litterateur Bibhuti Patnaik Cuttack: Eminent litterateur, novelist of repute and a member of the Kendra Sahitya Academy Council Bibhuti Patnaik has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Sahitya Bharati Samman 2007’, Orissa’s highest literary award. Instituted by the Gangadhar Rath Foundation, the award carrying a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, a citation and mementos would be conferred on Patnaik by Orissa Governor M. C. Bhandare on January 12. Dr. Patnaik has written over 50 novels and about 200 short stories since 1954. Winner of several literary awards and honours, Dr. Patnaik has been selected in recognition of his contributions to the literary field for more than 50 years, said Foundation Secretary Dr Jayant Rath. Known for his innovative style in short stories and novels, Patnaik has created remarkable characters like in ‘Badhu Nirupama’, ‘Premika’, ‘Sultan’. His novel ‘Landa Dehury’ on the Gadjat movement in the State is also equally well known. The foundation would also honour poet Harihar Mishra with the ‘Bhanuji Rao Memorial Award’. The ‘Subrat Memorial Award’ would be given to young writer and DIG in police headquarters Debashis Panigrahy. -- PTI
