PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday launched the mass drug administration programme to combat filariasis in all the four regions of the Union Territory. He told the people to cooperate with health workers and consume the diethylcarbamizine citrate (DEC) tablets supplied as per the instruction. Director of Medical Services Dilip Kumar Baliga and Assistant Director (Filaria) N. Nila Mani were also present. According to sources, a total of 4,000 Health Department volunteers fanned across the Union Territory to deliver the single dose of DEC tablets on the first day of the campaign. They covered about 90.6 per cent of the population in Puducherry and 87.2 per cent in Karaikal region. Health Department officials said the tablets should be consumed in one go (three of them or two of them together) after breakfast or lunch. If there is any adverse reaction after consuming the tablets, people should approach the nearest Primary Health Centre.
