‘Conscious attempt to destroy faith’

Proof of waning morals in politics: Archbishop

Says religious institutions instil morality

Joseph Mar Thoma to inaugurate meet on January 2

PATHANAMTHITTA: Archbishop Mar Joseph Powathil has said that politics without morality has no existence.

Mar Powathil was inaugurating a public meeting held in connection with the consecration of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Mylapra, near here, on Friday afternoon.

He alleged that there was a conscious attempt from certain political quarters to destroy faith in God. This dubious design by certain vested interests in politics itself was a testimony to the waning morality in politics in the modern times, he alleged. Mar Powathil said religious institutions played a key role in instilling morality in the society.

Major Archbishop Baselios Cleemis Catholicos presided over the meeting. Archbishop of Thiruvalla Thomas Mar Koorilos delivered the keynote address.

The Catholicos led the consecration service in the forenoon. Archbishop Thomas Mar Koorilos and bishops Joshua Mar Ignatheos and Youhanon Mar Chrysostomos were the co-celebrants.
