ALAPPUZHA: The government has approved projects worth Rs.84 crore aimed at renovating and protecting beaches that were affected by the December 2004 tsunami along the State’s coast, Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said. Inaugurating the Alappuzha Tourism Festival on the Alappuzha Beach here on Friday, Mr. Balakrishnan said the projects were prepared under the account of the Rs.100 crore that had been set aside from the tsunami funds for renovation of the coastline. Pointing out that the flow of tourists to the State was on the rise, the Minister said five lakh foreign tourists visited the State last year. –Staff Reporter
