Discussion: Governor Rameshwar Thakur with Visvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math at the valedictory function of the all-India Sanskrit elocution contest in Bangalore on Friday. Bangalore: Governor Rameshwar Thakur said here on Friday that Sanskrit language and literature is the “repository of all that is good, bright and valuable in our culture.” He was presiding over the valedictory of the all-India Sanskrit elocution contest held at Poornaprajna Vidya Peetha in Bangalore organised by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Samsthan, a deemed university based in Delhi. Mr. Thakur said that the samsthan, since its inception in 1970, had been spreading Sanskrit education through its 11 centres across India. The annual elocution contest, in eight disciplines of traditional learning, was a good way of bringing students and teachers together from parts of India and creating a sense of unity, said Mr. Thakur. Pejavar math seer Vishwesha Tirtha, who was the chief guest at the function, said that Sanskrit was the link among all the Indian languages. Vice-Chancellor of the samsthan Venkata Kutumba Shastri participated in the function. Mr. Thakur felicitated Sanskrit scholars from across India and released three books on Sanskrit tradition and Madhwa philosophy. The two-day event hosted debates and discussions among 170 delegates from 17 states in eight shastras. Karnataka stood first in the elocution contest bagging seven gold, four silver and one bronze medal.
