ALAPPUZHA: The government will soon amend the ordinance for the proposed Malabar Devaswom Board so that the new board president can take oath of office before the Devaswom Commissioner, instead of the Devaswom Secretary as proposed earlier, Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran has said. He was speaking at a press conference here on Friday. Mr. Sudhakaran said the Governor and the High Court too had objected to the earlier proposal that the new president take the oath of office before a government secretary. The government had decided to amend the ordinance keeping the opposition in mind, he said. The new board, which will have nearly 1,600 temples under its jurisdiction, will have nine members, including two women and one member each representing Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Mr. Sudhakaran said.
