Enormous police posse deployed with senior officers overseeing security arrangements TIRUMALA: Unprecedented security arrangements are being made for the President Pratibha Patil’s visit to Tirumala town. Even though the President is likely to spend only a couple of hours atop the temple town the State government, it seems is in no mood to compromise on the security cover being extended to her given the ghastly assasination of the President of the Pakistan People Party Benazir Bhutto on Thursday. According to reliable sources, more than 2000 police personnel of all cadres have been pressed for the bandobust duty of the President on her visit to both Tirumala and Tirupati.The enormity of the security arrangements is such that as many as four IPS officers including the S.P. of Chittoor T.V. Sasidhar Reddy, S.P. of Kadapa Nagi Reddy, Guntakal Railway S.P. Nagaiah, Security and Intelligence S.P. Ravinder have been specially deputed for the President’s programme. Besides this, Inspector General of Police in charge of Rayalseema Anuradha and DIG Jayarami Reddy are camping at Tirumala to oversee the arrangements. CombingOn the other hand, district S.P. Sasidhar Reddy has ordered for a thorough combing of Tirumala ghat roads besides posting sniffer dog squads, bomb disposal squads and Armed Reserve police at all vital points. The TTD’s security and vigilance wing also has intensified its security operations both at Tirumala and Tirupati. Checking and screening of bags and baggage at the Alipiri tollgate has been stepped up.
