PATHANAMTHITTA: Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate an emergency operation theatre and a 20-bed operation ward at Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Monday, according to District Medical Officer N.N. Murali. Talking to TheHindu, Dr. Murali said the operation theatre-cum-ward would be set up in the vacant portion of the Government Ayurvedic Hospital building opposite to the Government Hospital at Sannidhanam. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister in Thiruvananthapuram a week ago. According to Dr. Murali, the new facility will help the medical team at Sannidhanam stabilise patients before shifting them to major hospitals in Pathanamthitta or Kottayam. The first one hour is critical in stabilising the condition of a patient and the proposed operation theatre would serve the purpose to a great extent, he added. He said the work on the operation ward with 10 beds along with a 10-bed post-operation ward was fast progressing. A hydraulic operation table, cardiac monitor, shadowless lamp, pulse oxymeter, Boyle’s Apparatus, autoclave, suction apparatus, sterilizer, stretcher trolley, instrument trolley and surgical equipment have been transported to Sannidhanam. Staff appointedHe said five doctors (specialists), two nurses, two nursing assistants and two attenders have been posted at the new operation ward. The new facility will be inaugurated at 7 p.m. on Monday. Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy will preside over the function. Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran will deliver the keynote address.
