dated December 29, 1957: Planes and supplies flown to Ceylon

In response to the Ceylon Prime Minister’s appeal for help to relieve the distress of the people afflicted by floods the Government of India have this morning (December 27) flown five Dakotas to Colombo with medical supplies, supply-drop units and para medical units. Two helicopters are also being carried in the Dakotas.

The President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, has sent a communication to the Ceylon Prime Minister conveying India’s sympathy to the Ceylon Government and the people in their struggle against the floods. An appeal is also being made to the people of India to contribute generously towards the relief of the victims in Ceylon.
