Plea to check price rise

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: Makkal Sevai Kazhagam has urged the State Government to take action to check the rise in commodity prices in the larger interest of the people.

A resolution adapted to this effect at its meeting held here recently said that the prices of pulses, edible oil and other commodities were raising and the government should immediately bring down the same.

Another resolution condemned the Andhra Pradesh government’s move to construct a bridge across the Paalar. It pointed out that the bridge, if constructed, would hit hard the riparian rights of farmers in Tamil Nadu.

The meeting, through a resolution, urged the State Government to constitute district-level vigilance committees for ensuring provision of basic amenities in private higher educational institutions.

It also urged the government to sanction another medical college for Madurai with international standards.

Founder president of Kazhagam R. Dakshinamurthy presided over the meeting and its general secretary V. M.A. Selvarajan, treasurer S. Thavamani and Women’s wing secretary A. Prema spoke.
