In touch with U.P. Govt. for distribution Sets up subsidiary for power trading NEW DELHI: Charting a diversification course and venturing into other segments of power sector, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is all set to make it big in power distribution. It has formed NTPC Electric Supply Company Limited (NESCL) for this purpose. Having set up a joint venture for taking up power distribution in Kanpur city and going all alone in Mangalore, the company is one of the front-runners for taking up distribution network in Uttar Pradesh. The U.P. Government is looking for private sector players who could play a major role in putting back in shape the power infrastructure, which is in a shambles. “We are in touch with the Uttar Pradesh Government. Nothing has been finalised as yet but things look positive for acquiring the distribution network,” NTPC Chairman and Managing Director, T. Sankaralingam, said. The company is also in talks with the Jharkhand and Bihar governments for taking up distribution networks in some of the townships. Mr. Sankaralingam said the company had also undertaken huge projects under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yogna. The company had also set up a subsidiary for power trading, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN).
