Terrorist challenge to world: Putin

Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin described the assassination of Benazir Bhutto as a terrorist challenge to the world even as Moscow feared a surge in violence in Pakistan.

“This is a challenge thrown by the forces of terrorism, not only to Pakistan, but to the entire international community,” he said in a message to his Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharraf.

“We hope that the organisers of this crime are found and punished accordingly.”

Russian officials voiced concern that Bhutto’s murder may plunge Pakistan into turmoil.
