MYSORE: The State unit of the All India Mahila Samskruthika Sanghatane (AIMSS) will organise its three-day fourth State-level convention here from January 4. The convention will discuss various issues concerning women in the changed socio-economic scenario. State Secretary of AIMSS B.R. Aparna told presspersons here on Friday that the convention was part of women’s struggle against various issues. Nearly 10,000 women from various parts of the State would participate in a procession here on January 4. An open session would be held on the premises of the Town Hall. Over 350 representatives and observers from various parts of the State would participate in the session for delegates to be held at the Centenary Hall of the Maharaja College on January 5 and 6, she said. She said the State unit had been making preparations for the convention for the past two months and had held many programmes on the problems being faced by women. It would discuss various issues pertaining to women and chalk-out programmes to address them. Impact of special economic zones on women, female infanticide, problems faced by working women and the recent verdict by the Supreme Court with regard to employing women in bars would be discussed threadbare, she said. Science writer J.R. Lakshman Rao would inaugurate the open session. Freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy would be the chief guest. President of AIMSS Chaya Mukharjee would deliver the inaugural address. State Secretary of SUCI K. Radhakrishna and General Secretary of AIMSS H.G. Jayalakshmi would speak. K. Sreenivas would release a souvenir. Activist Meera Nayak would participate. President of the State unit of AIMSS Sudha Kamath would preside over the open session. Member of the State Committee of SUCI Krishna Chakravarthy would deliver the valedictory address.
