Admar (Udupi district): Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji of Admar Math on Friday backed the ascension of Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math to the Paryaya Peetha on January 18. Eight seers of the Ashta Maths, including Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, made it clear that while they would not object to the ascension of the Puttige seer to the Paryaya Peetha, he (Puttige seer) should not worship Lord Krishna as he had visited foreign countries, which, they said, was prohibited by religious texts. Addressing presspersons at Admar Math at Admar village in Udupi district, Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji said that he had doubts if the eight seers had understood the issue before issuing such a joint statement. He said, “Not only should Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji ascend the Paryaya Peetha, but also touch the idol of Lord Krishna at the Sri Krishna Math/Temple in Udupi and worship it. The Puttige seer should conduct his Paryaya for two years.” Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji, who had visited foreign countries before Sugunendra Tirtha said, “I too have visited foreign countries. But I did not give up my right to worship Lord Krishna. My acceptance of a disciple, worshipping Lord Krishna and my foreign tours were three different issues which happened in three different periods.” (It may be recalled here that Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji did not ascend the Paryaya Peetha after visiting foreign countries). When it was pointed out to Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji that the junior seer of Admar Math, Vishwapriya Tirtha, had signed the joint statement of the eight seers of Ashta Maths, he (Vibudesha Tirtha) shot back, “It was I who was responsible for his (Vishwapriya Tirtha’s) ascension to the Paryaya Peetha.” Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji said that he would be meet Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math in Udupi on January 1 to discuss the issue of ascension to the Paryaya Peetha. “We will soon solve the problem under the leadership of Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji of Admar Math,” he said. The Puttige seer said Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji was the first among the seers of the Ashta Maths to go to foreign countries to propagate Dwaita philosophy. The “Ratna Ratha” project, which he (Puttige seer) intended to take up during his Paryaya, would be dedicated to Vibudesha Tirtha Swamiji, he said.
