Jaisankar shines

Madurai: A six-wicket haul by Jaisankar (six for 15) helped Olympus Cricket Club, Madurai, defeat Ramanathapuram District XI by seven wickets in the sixth annual Sun Brothers Trophy State-level knock-out cricket tournament in Usilampatti on Friday.

The scores: Ramanathapuram District XI 108 in 21.5 overs (Johnson 40, Jaisankar six for 15) lost to Olympus CC, Madurai 112 for three in 16 overs (Tariqwali 42); Theni District XI 121 in 23.5 overs (Kanagaraj 44, Balamurugan four for 28) lost to Tamilan CC, Karaikudi 122 for six in 21.4 overs (Bala 40).

Ramanathapuram advances

Cuddalore failed to reach the target just by four runs for an outright win at the end of the second day and host Ramanathapuram entered the quarterfinals of the TNCA inter-district under-17 cricket tournament for the P.R. Thevar Trophy at Ramanathapuram on Friday.

The scores: Ramanathapuram 201 in 71 overs and 105 in 40.5 overs (Guhan four for 28) drew with Cuddalore 97 in 40.5 overs and 206 for seven in 26 overs (Rajesh 101, Guhan 43, Kannan 36).

Two share lead

Venprakash and S. Venkatasundaram, both from Chennai, shared the lead with 4 points each at the end of the fourth round in the 11th State-level open chess tournament for Pearl City Trophy at Tuticorin on Friday.

Easy win

Sekkalai Cricket Club lost to Karaikudi Town Cricket Club by 24 runs in the Sivagangai DCA first division league at Karaikudi recently.

The scores: ‘A’ division: Karaikudi Town CC 226 for six in 45 overs (Kumar 52 not out, Anand 47) bt Sekkalai CC 202 for seven in 45 overs (C.S. Anand 101 not out); Nights CC 245 in 38.4 overs (Pandiyan 72, Varutharajan 42, Murali 39) bt APTECH WBC Software CC 106 in 24.1 overs.

‘B’ division: Devakottai CC ‘A’ 118 in 29.1 overs bt Big Birds CC in 30.1 overs (Kaleeswaran five for 17).
