BANGALORE: It was a memorable double for Rachana R. Gowda of Mysore, who bagged the girls’ under-18 singles title with a 7-6(6), 6-2 victory over top seed Akansha Kohli in the final of the KIM’s–AITA Talent Series junior tennis championship which concluded at the KIM’s courts here on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, Rachana had won the girls’ u-16 singles title. The girls’ u-18 singles final was the only fixture of the day as the organisers had completed all the other finals ahead of schedule on Thursday. Memorable winFor Akansha too, the final was a memorable one for all wrong reasons. The top seed looked set for an easy romp as she began aggressively and hit her way past Rachana and raced to a 5-2 lead in the first set. But serving for the set, she committed a series of errors and squandered one set point after the other. The steady-stroking Rachana stalled her and rallied to square the set at 5-5 and the later took it to a tie-breaker. Here too, Akansha frittered away a set, leading 6-5 in the tie-breaker. Rachana held on and took the set at 7-6(6). Akansha, who squandered nearly a dozen set points before dropping the set, was never the same again. Rachana simply maintained her momentum with a solid baseline game to romp away with the set and the match at 6-2. The results (final): Girls: U-18 singles: Rachana R. Gowda bt Akansha Kohli 7-6(6), 6-2.
