HelpAge art auction to raise funds for the old

Child artist Michelle to gift a painting of hers, free of cost, for the auction

NEW DELHI: To impart meaning to the lives of disadvantaged elderly persons, HelpAge India in collaboration with Habiart Foundation is organising a special art auction at The Oberoi here on January 19.

One hundred artists were approached by the organisers to contribute art works for this auction. And significant works of art from almost all artists and sculptors have been received.

The auction promises to be a noteworthy event with 90 eminent artists and sculptors having already pledged their works. While 42 of the 90 works belong to the artist community from Delhi and the National Capital Region, the rest have been created by artists and sculptors from Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Vadodara. From Pakistan, artists Ghulam Rasul and Iqbal Hussain will also put their art works under the hammer. According to Punam Singh of HelpAge India, there are two top-notch national artists whose works are protected and cannot be exported outside the country. “Their names are Jamini Roy and Gobardhan Ash. There are also two old masters namely Maniklal Banerji and Meera Mukerjee. We also have a work by noted artist Lalitha Lajmi who has recently been featured in a cameo role in Aamir Khan’s film ‘Taare Zameen Pe.’” Eleven-year-old child artist Michelle has decided to gift one of her paintings, free of cost, for the auction. Her painting, with her brief biography and authentication certificate, will be the last one to be auctioned.” Eminent names like Hemi Bawa, Sanjay Bhattacharya, Shobha Broota, Arpana Caur, Jagdish Chander, Jatin Das, Gopi Gajwani, Satish Gujral, Harshvardhan, Kavita Jaiswal, Krishan Khanna, Naresh Kapuria, Ram Kumar, K. Khosa, Seema Kohli, Sudip Roy, Bulbul Sharma, Gogi Sarojpal and Jay Zharotia have given their artistic impressions for this auction .
