Civic body launches demolition drive

NEW DELHI: A major demolition drive was launched by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday afternoon targeting illegally constructed fourth and fifth floors in Central Zone. Properties were demolished at Friends Colony, Defence Colony and East of Kailash.

Supreme Court

Central Zone Executive Engineer J. S. Yadav said: “These are the unauthorised properties that the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee has been pressurising us to demolish. We initiated the drive at 10 a.m. and it continued till 5 p.m. Since we had the support of the police, no problem was encountered. Demolitions will continue on Saturday at South Extension-I and Friends Colony.”
