BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Government has declared 151 tehsils in 37 districts of the State as “drought-affected” and sanctioned Rs. 43.50 crore for relief work there. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan reviewed the State Government’s relief initiative in the drought-affected areas at a meeting held in Mantralaya here. He instructed officials to make arrangements for drinking water supply and employment for the needy in the affected areas. While asking the Administration to also ensure availability of fodder and water for the cattle, the Chief Minister urged the farmers having surplus stocks of fodder to help build fodder banks in the deficient districts. The Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a proposal latest by January 15 to demand Central assistance for drought relief. He also asked them to prepare an action plan for drinking water supply in rural as well as urban areas keeping in view the coming summer. He particularly instructed the collectors to ensure proper supervision of relief works to prevent migration of the rural work force. The State Government has provided Rs.1 crore for transportation of drinking water in problem villages of Tikamgarh and Chhatarpur districts.
