HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday assured that the State Government employees working in the jurisdiction of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will get the enhanced House Rent Allowance (HRA) on a par with Central Government employees. The State government employees working in the twin cities have threatened to go on strike demanding the enhanced HRA payments after Hyderabad was upgraded as an A1 city. Speaking at the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee meeting, Jewel Gardens, Secunderabad, Dr. Reddy promised that construction of 67,650 houses, taken up under its housing programme, would be completed in Hyderabad and surrounding areas by the end of 2008. Announcing the proposed Rs 2-a-kg- rice scheme, the Chief Minister informed the party workers that the scheme would be formally launched in April 2008. “Daily drinking water to some parts of the twin cities would start from January and by July of next year, the scheme would be extended to entire GHMC area,” Dr. Reddy said. The Chief Minister also assured Congress workers from the Secunderabad Cantonment Board area that GHMC funds would be used for the development of basic urban infrastructure in the Cantonment .
