Special Correspondent
VELLORE: Four members of a family from Chennai were killed, and another was injured, when a car rammed into a truck at Vallandramam village near Sedhuvalai on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway, 12 km from here, on Thursday night.
K. Masilamani (55), an engineer residing at Ashok Nagar, his wife Kalarani (45), daughter Ramya (25), son-in-law Raghunathan (30) and the latter’s seven-month-old child Reethika were proceeding to Krishnagiri after visiting Sripuram near Vellore.
The head of Masilamani, who was at the wheel, was severed by the protruding iron rods from the truck that pierced the car’s windscreen. His wife, daughter and grand-daughter, who were sitting in the back, were also killed. Dr. Raghunathan, who was sitting in front, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, and later to a Chennai hospital.
In another accident in Tiruvannamalai district, four persons belonging to Valasai village were killed and 11 others injured when a cargo van collided with an onion-laden truck at Thanagoundanpudur early on Friday. While one person was discharged after treatment, the rest were referred to Government General Hospital, Chennai.
