CPI sees threat to entire region

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has expressed shock over the assassination of the former Pakistan Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto.

In a statement here on Friday, the CPI central secretariat said her assassination was a “serious setback to the ongoing process of revival of democracy in Pakistan.”

The party pointed out that the attack took place in Rawalpindi, which was like a fortress. This only showed how far the terror outfits had penetrated in to Pakistan. “It poses a serious threat for the entire region,” the central secretariat said. It hoped that the people of Pakistan would overcome the crisis and continue their struggle for restoration of democracy.

A setback: V.P. Singh

The former Prime Minister, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, said, “We have lost one of the most stalwart leaders of our sub-continent and her demise is a very big setback to the democratic process.”
