President pays homage to tsunami victims
Port Blair: President Pratibha Patil on Thursday paid homage to 116 IAF men and their family members who were washed away in the tsunami of December 26, 2004. She laid a wreath at the memorial at Car Nicobar in their memory.
It was also a tribute to the air warriors, who stayed on in the Island to work for relief and rescue operations of civilians. A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the brave men and their family members. The President handed over keys of 200 permanent houses at Kinyuka village in Car Nicobar Island to the tsunami victims. Ms. Patil also visited the National Memorial Cellular Jail here and laid wreaths at the freedom fighters’ memorial. — PTI
