Jyothi to lead

Hyderabad: E. Jyothi of Kasturba will lead Osmania University in the all-India inter-university women’s hockey championship to be held in Gwalior from January 3, according to Syed Mustafa, coach.

The team: E. Jyothi (capt), K. Jhansi Laxmi, P. Sharanya, B.N. Ramadevi, Simpy Sharma, Kiranmayi, Jyotsna (all from Kasturba College), Archana (Wesley),V. Soundarya (Nzb), Bharathi (Nzb), Jayamma (Nalgonda), Uma (Armoor), Srivani (Nalgonda), Anusha (OU Engg College) and Manasa (GCPE). Coach: Syed Mustafa. Manager: Uma Rao (Kasturba College).

Amitpal outwits Rao

Amitpal Singh outwitted P.V.V.S. Rao in the second round of the AP State open prize money chess tournament organised by Dronacharya Academy here. Earlier, Lakshmi Narayana, president of Vasavi Club, inaugurated.

Pavan bags double

Surya Pavan of Andhra Pradesh bagged a double winning the boys’ singles and doubles event in the AITA-BTA all- India championship series tennis tournament in Balasore, according to information received here.

The results: Boys: Surya Pavan (AP) bt R. Siddarth (TN) 6-3, 6-2. Doubles: Surya Pavan / Ansu K. Bhuyan (Orissa) bt Nishanth Rebello / Akshath Vijay (WB) 6-4, 6-0.

Girls: Suilee Upadhyaya (Orissa) bt Surja Tejaswini (AP) 6-3, 6-1.
