India Green triumphs

India Green finished with 28 jumping penalties

THE WINNERS: The India Green’s Nadia Haridass, Sudhir Singh and Sanjana Madappa.

CHENNAI: India Green won the CSI ‘Y’ international equestrian team championship at the Mohite Stadium, Officers Training Academy here on Friday. Consisting of Sudhir Singh, Sanjana Madappa and Nadia Haridass, the Indian team finished with 28 jumping penalties. Japan finished second with 36 penalty points, while India Red came third with 44 penalty points.

Bangalore’s Nadia Haridass astride Napolean was easily the best performer in the championship. The 19-year-old did took her horse wonderfully well across all the 12 fences, which was aesthetic and graceful to watch. She finished with a minimum of four penalties each in round I and II.

Her teammates did chip in adequately. Sudhir Singh and Sanjana proved equal to the task, committing 12 and eight penalties respectively in two rounds combined.

India Red finished third thanks mainly to Swr. Parvesh Kumar. The 20-year-old from Uttar Pradesh astride Andy Flower kept his cool and managed a minimum of eight penalties in total, four in each round.

Australia finished fourth with 64 penalty points. Singapore was eliminated in Round I.

Lt. General Sudhir Sharma, President, Equestrian Federation of India and Maj. Gen. R.K. Swamy, Commandant, OTA, gave away the prizes.

The results: 1. India Green (Sanjana Madappa, Nadia Haridass, Sudhir Singh) 28 jumping penalties; 2. Japan (Ajmal Singh, Taichi Sugaya, Tomohiko Nishiwaki) 36; 3. India Red (Anant Rajpurohit, Swr. Parvesh Kumar, Aliya Das Gupta) 44; 4. Australia (Jonathan Smith, Benjamin Blay, Kate Brideoake) 64.
