Chennai: The senior division hockey league championship got to an interesting start on Friday with a shock result at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here. Sports Authority of India ‘B’ caused an upset, beating the highly-rated Indian Bank by the odd goal in three, the match winner surfacing from S. Raja off a penalty corner two minutes before the final whistle. David Arokyaraj put SAI ahead from a penalty corner, which was neutralised by Olympian Dinesh Naik through a penalty corner. The team SAI led 1-0 at half-time. In another match, Southern Railway beat Chennai Port Trust 2-0. Divakar and Murugavel scored a goal each. Railways led 1-0 at half-time. IGM reignsIndira Gandhi Memorial defeated Rajamanickam Memorial 6-5 after sudden death in the CHA second and third division hockey championship final at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Friday. Thirugnanam scored the winner for Indira Gandhi Memorial in sudden-death. Earlier, Vivek, Bakar, Aravind, Karthik, Thirugnanam (for India Gandhi Memorial) and Kannnan, Jayaraj, Britto, Dilip, Aravind (for Rajamanickam Memorial) were on target as the tie-breaker ended 5-5. S.R. Bhaskaran, Vice-President, CHA, gave away the prizes.
