Smart City: talks for additional land fail

Staff Reporter

Government to take final decision

KOCHI: A meeting convened by the district administration to discuss ways to meet the demand of Tecom, the promoters of Kochi Smart City project, for an additional 10 acres of land ended in a stalemate.

Tecom had demanded additional land adjacent to the 100 acres already received from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). Following this, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish decided to leave the issue to the State government.

The KSEB, which owns the 10 acres of land demanded by Tecom, expressed its inability to concede to the demand citing that the land housed its pump house and other buildings.

Tecom had made the demand on the ground that the receipt of this land would give a specific shape to the already acquired 100 acres, which, the company said, now has a ragged shape.

Officials of KSEB and Infopark attended the meeting. In the absence of a representative of Tecom, Infopark officials presented the company’s views.

Meanwhile, the Collector said he would recommend to the State government good service entry for K.K. Vijayan, the Special Tahsildar who was in charge of the land acquisition for the Smart City, and members of his team, considering the tremendous work put in by them for completing the acquisition process expeditiously.

Metro Rail

The proposed metro rail project in Kochi has gathered momentum with the Collector receiving the detailed project report from the State government.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had handed over the report to the government.

Deputy Collector R. Ramadevi has been asked to study the report within five days. Land acquisition process would start immediately after that, the Collector said.

He said that officials of DMRC and the Revenue Department would soon undertake a joint inspection of the project area.
